Project #1- Goodbye Popcorn!

The dining room...see its half popcorn, half drywall
So our first project in the new house is to remove the popcorn ceiling!!!!

Its messy, but not difficult.  OK, its really messy- and a little difficult  We also did a little demo and removed the molding and the oh so aesthetic wooden beams from the sitting room. (Demo is pretty fun- it makes you feel powerful, ripping stuff out of the wall.  April pulled one beam out all by herself- she is one buff lady!)

How do you remove popcorn ceiling?
Well, safety first...put on your peeper protection (goggles) and face mask.  (If home was sprayed with popcorn before 1980- get an expert to check it out there could be asbestos). Then, thoroughly soak the area that you will be scraping, then use a putty knife to scrape the popcorn texture off the ceiling.  Dry wall should be underneath, which will lead us to Project #2- Texturing the Ceiling.

When you are done scraping, clean up your mess.....shop-vac, sweep, repeat!
